On the 19th of November 2019, MCPHS' ASHP-ASP policy committee visited the Massachusetts State House in support of the Pharmacists Provider Status bill. The committee witnessed the presentation of the bill that will hopefully be passed in the near future. If the bill is passed into law, it would recognized registered pharmacists as healthcare providers in section 1 of chapter 111 of the General Laws.
There are over 7 million people in Massachusetts with a preempt shortage of Primary Care givers. With Pharmacists being well over 8,0000 in number, we are an extraordinary resource for the health care community. As pharmacists caring for patients on a daily basis, we should be included on the listing of health care providers. Let's hope the bill is passed into law.
