The policy committee organized a virtual meeting with Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz’s legislative director, Maia Raynor. This meeting was inspired by the National Student Advocacy week initiative which was held in October. The goal of this meeting was to address the issues related to the Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) and discuss the Rutledge vs PCMS Supreme Court Case. During the meeting, the discussion was led by the Policy VP and covered subjects related to the price spreading tactics, rebates, and DIR fees implemented by the PBMs and how they adversely affect the community pharmacies. Ms. Raynor was astonished to hear how PBMs affect pharmacies, increase drug costs and limit patient access to drugs. She told us that addressing this issue is one of the key priorities of Senator Chang-Diaz and encouraged us to continue our advocacy efforts.
